| April 02, 2008 | | The city of Qingdao, a co-host of the Beijing Olympics, will offer a foreign language call center for the Games’ sailing events, including telephonic interpreting. | The 2008 Olympics sailing events will be held in the port of Qingdao, and the city is already planning to help foreign visitors by offering language services by telephone. The call center will provide direct communication in foreign languages as well as some telephonic interpreting. The center will provide information about travel routes as well as the latest weather report. Language-challenged foreign visitors will also be able to get directions and, most importantly, check on the sailing events programs and schedules. A special telephonic interpreting hotline will also be available for journalists. According to a March 26th article from china.org.cn, the phone number for the call center will be announced 100 days before the start of the Games, and will continue to operate after the Olympics in order to aid foreigners living and working in Qingdao.
