According to a recent article by the Deseret Morning News, an ancient document, a 2,300-year-old scroll, is now more readable due to recent document translation. The document was discovered in 1962, but dates back to the fourth century B.C. It was found among some ancient tombs around the second-largest Grecian city.
The ancient document carried some importance, as it was thought to be from a member of nobility. The papyrus scroll, a philosophical study of a poem, was partially burned, carbonized, stained, and broken into pieces. In order to translate and understand the document, scientists used a camera to view the details of the writing through various wavelengths. Some portions of the old manuscript were easier to read than others. In addition to decoding the ancient document, the Grecian scholars “are working on a new publication of the document, intending to release the information by the end of the year. The BYU team intends to publish an edition in 2007, including a Greek text and a translation.”
